There is a certain chemistry that happens onstage whenever Jazz Mine performs.

Ike Levin has been playing reed
instruments professionally for over 25 years. A native of Chicago,
Illinois, Ike was an active performer in the windy city's vibrant jazz,
blues, and new music scene before relocating to the San Francisco Bay
area.
His real development as a jazz musician came from listening and
occasionally sitting in with the many great jazz artists who came
through Chicago's jazz clubs during the 70's and early 80's. Whether its
"straight ahead" or freer forms of jazz, Ike is never content to rely on
clichés or simply replicate past musical phrases. Instead, he is always
searching for new musical ideas and sounds all the while focusing on
keeping the music swinging.
"An exceptional unheralded saxophonist with fresh ideas and powerful
emotionality." - Jazz Times

Extensions |
10 am to 2 pm
Jazz Sunday Brunch w/
Extensions Jazz Quartet
This quartet defines the fusion of energy and sincerity.
Extensions is a blend of hard bop, free, funk, modal, and modern with overtones
of great musicians such as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, and Woody
Shaw. Extensions is not just another jazz group playing old standards with out
any feeling. These musicians are young, fiery, and they play the songs that make
people say things like, "That’s a good tune! No one ever plays that", or "They
do that song on my favorite Wayne Shorter record". This group of high school
juniors recently took first place in the University of Southern California High
School Jazz Invitational where they also walked away with scholarships to attend
USC. Upon hearing Extensions, many listeners share the opinion of
performer/educator Bill Watrous in thinking, "Where the h-ll did [these] guys
learn to play that kind of sh-t!?".
Band Members: Doug Mosher (Tenor and Soprano Sax), Richard Sears (Piano/Rhodes),
Ryan York (Acoustic Bass), Max Delbecq (Drums).

Jason Martineau
|
Anna Kristina is not to be missed! She
is truly a Bay Area gem. There's a velvety seduction in her voice, coupled with
an immense range, energy, and musicality that captivates your eyes and ears.
It's hard not to notice the "skill, sophistication and power in her voice" and
then be undeniably drawn in by her warm, delightful and compelling stage
presence. "Absolutely refreshing and uniquely hip," she delivers her songs as if
she is in conversation with the audience, while using her voice as an
instrument," keeping her listeners intensely engaged. Said at a recent show...
"It's almost impossible to go see her without being instantly converted into a
fan." Anna will be accompanied by the sensitive and skillfull jazz piano
stylings of Jason Martineau. |
9/29/04 Wednesday Clockwork
8 & 10 pm

|
"Creative precision by
design; A cappella from a jazz point of view."
Their performances range from beautiful ballads to complex harmonized
bebop lines normally only performed by an experienced saxophone section.
From Latin grooves to hip shuffles, these five voices make the listener
forget that there are no instruments playing. Their precise intonation
and timing make a bass and drums unnecessary, and their arrangements
would leave a pianist with nothing to add.
We have a ton of new music
to sing for you,
and have invited a jazz instrumental trio to play before our a cappella
sets. Stephen will bring out his trumpet and we'll all sing a tune or
two with the band in addition to two sets of a cappella jazz vocals. The
food is great, too! |
