11/3/04 Wednesday
An Evening with Ricardo Scales
7 pm, 8:30 pm & 10 pm

Ricardo
Scales |
"The black Liberace," Ricardo
Scales' nickname, only tells part of the pianist's story. Like the real
Liberace, he wears flashy attire on-stage when he launches into a set
that showcases his incredible versatility. What the nickname doesn't
tell you is that the pianist has a determination as tough as steel, and
he needed every ounce of it to ever make it to the stage in the first
place. Everything from his performance to his flash makes Scales' piano
playing look fun and easy. And if you believed that, you'd be missing an
inspiring story.

11/4/04 Thursday
Mary Holland 7 pm & 9 pm

Mary Holland |
Mary E. Holland (vocalist and
songwriter) and Blac'berry Soup Quartet brings to you unique music

11/6/04 Saturday
Zakiya Hooker & Bluz 4 U
7 pm, 9 pm & 11 pm

Zakiya Hooker |
At first glance it would seem that
Zakiya Hooker was born into the blues. After all, her father is blues legend
John Lee Hooker. But rather than relying on her father, Zakiya has pursued life
-- and music -- on her own terms, overcoming personal tragedy along the way.
Her Pointblank Records debut, Flavors Of the Blues, opens with a cover of the
Robert Johnson classic "Stones in My Passway," illustrating Zakiya’s supple
blues and smooth, jazz-inflected style. Elsewhere, the results range from
tempestuous ("Art Of Divorce" and "Let’s Do Something") to delicate and moody
("Protect Me From The Blues," "New Orleans Rain, " and the torch song gem
"Drowning In Your Love"). Joining his daughter and Charlie Musselwhite in the
studio, John Lee Hooker lends his inimitable presence on the track "Bit By Love
(Hard Times)." |
11/7/04 Sunday
Gail Dobson & Friends 7 pm & 9 pm

Gail Dobson
|
A unique, instantly identifiable sound, a personal
musical trademark so strong as to be recognized in just a few notes. Such an
artist is Gail Dobson. Once heard, her voice is forever memorable, like all the
greats."
"Vocalist Gail Dobson's new music covers the whole palate; emotion, musicality,
and hipness. You might just be caught in this singer's phenomenal web... I was."
--Tune Magazine - London, England. |
11/8/04 Monday
David Bernstein 7 pm, 8:30 pm & 10 pm

Dave Bernstein |
Dave Bernstein left California
for a couple years to study at Berklee but in 1986 returned to his
native state, where he established himself as one of the Bay Area's
leading jazz guitarists. Influenced greatly by legends like Charlie
Parker, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter.
Dave Bernstein is one of the best jazz guitarists around, equally at
home in both straight ahead/bop and traditional blues... it is hard to
think of a finer premiere album by a young jazz musician than
Bernstein's C the Blues. It is refreshing to see someone carrying on and
adding to the jazz guitar traditions of Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell
and Herb Ellis. -- William Grim, allaboutjazz.com. |
11/9/04 Tuesday
Steve Moon and The Luna
Quartet
7 pm, 8:30 pm & 10 pm
The Luna Quartet |
Combining traditional jazz with
a sound all their own, The Luna Quartet has quickly established itself
as one of the most exciting young jazz enssembles on the west coast jazz
scene.
"New Standards" is the 3rd album by the SF Bay area's Luna Quartet. It's
the first in which they composed all of the material, and many listeners
feel it is their finest work to date.
Band Members: Steve Moon (Piano); Ian Scherer (Guitar); Damon Lee
(Bass); Neils Myrner (Drums). 4 heads, 4 sounds... together. |
11/10/04 Wednesday
Larry Vann
7 pm, 8:30 pm & 10 pm

Larry Vann |
Larry Vann has made an
impressive mark on the Bay Area music scene over the years, and one
listen to his latest CD, "The Rhythm & Roots of Larry Vann," clearly
demonstrates why he has been in such huge demand for sessions and tours
with the likes of Elvin Bishop and Merl Saunders. His top-notch drumming
and percussion has garnered him popular and critical success throughout
the United States and Europe, but Vann has also wowed critics and crowds
alike with his sultry singing voice, buoyed by his melodic, inventive
songwriting.
Band
Members: Larry Vann (Leader, Drums); Roscoe Gallo (Keyboards); Tim
Landis (Guitar); Joe Thomas (Bass); Tru (Guest Artist - Guitar). |
11/11/04 Thursday
Tony Lindsey & Spangalang
7 pm, 8:30 pm & 10 pm

Tony Lindsey |
Let the R & B, Jazz and Pop
sounds of Tony Lindsay and Spangalang make this an evening you won't
forget! When not touring with Santana, vocalist Tony Lindsay performs
with Spangalang. Tony was part of the lineup that produced the multiple
Grammy-winning Santana album, Supernatural.
|
11/12/04 Friday Randy Darbonne &
Radio Soul
7 pm, 9 pm & 11 pm

Randy Darbonne |
Randy is a charismatic performer who
combines the influence of Marvin Gaye, Prince and Michael Jackson into his own
unique musical statement. Randy's solo career as an R&B,
Soul-songwriter/balladeer is destined to make a major impact on today's music
scene. |

11/14/04 Sunday
Lloyd
Gregory & Tranisha Gholston
7 pm & 9 pm

Lloyd Gregory |
When you think of that certain style of classic jazz
guitar that is smooth, soulful, melodic, flowing and immediately likeable, you
think of names like Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, George Benson, Kenny Burrell,
Earl Klugh and Larry Carlton. Now Lloyd Gregory has taken his place on that list
of illustrious jazz guitarists. |

Dick Fregulia's Good Vibes Quartet
7 pm to 10:30 pm
Dick Fegulia's Good Vibes Quartet |
Dick Fregulia's Good Vibes
Quartet represents an amalgamation of over 150 years of jazz-playing
experience. Like the title of their first album, Still Alive,
and on the Run, these mostly sexagenarians have been through
the jazz mill and are still hanging on, grooving all the way. Their
sound is rooted in the groups led by George Shearing and Cal Tjader, and
it is bursting with "bebop and beyond" vitality.
Dick Fregulia has performed as a jazz pianist in the San Francisco area
for over 40 years, as a soloist, sideman, accompanist to jazz vocalists,
and leader of his own jazz combos. The quartet joins him with vibist
Dave Spears, drummer Fritz Kasten, and bassist Bob Steele. |
