"The black Liberace," Ricardo Scales' nickname, only tells part of the pianist's
story. Like the real Liberace, he wears flashy attire on-stage when he launches

tell you is that the pianist has a determination as tough as steel, and he
needed every ounce of it to ever make it to the stage in the first place.

Hurricane Sam & The Hot Shots: Boogie, Blues 'n Jazz
Hurricane Sam soaks up musical styles like a biscuit in gravy, converting them
into his own brand of honky tonk blues, which he calls "Piano Madness." Critic
Lee Hildebrand once described him as "a master of musical Americana," a fitting
estimation, but Hurricane Sam Rudin also happens to be one of the most unique
and accomplished pianists on the planet. His debut album on Blue Rock'it surveys
much of the musical 20th century, while Sam's earthy, knocked-off vocals recall
fellow piano men Leon Russell and Dr. John. -- Bay Area Music Magazine. |
