Millicent Woods
She has arrived! Millicent Wood,
whose original vocal style and great depth of emotional expression distinguish
her as a unique talent whose time has come, has released her debut CD of jazz
and pop standards, Moonglow.
The soaring voice of Aretha Franklin, in the mid 1960's, first "ignited the
fire." However, it was the music of Nancy Wilson that helped her plot her course
as a jazz singer.
In the early 80's, Ms. Wood sang with E.W. Wainwright and the African Roots of
Jazz, the Black Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, had the lead acting, singing and
dancing role in Hal Johnson's Run Lil' Chillun, and played a nightclub singer
and dancer in Bubblin Brown Sugar. Whether she's belting out the brassy "Come
Rain Or Come Shine," steamin' with "Summertime," or caressing the intimate
lyrics of "In My Solitude," she does it all with ease. |

True Margrit
Come join True Margrit for her 29th birthday show!
"Some voices hide in corners waiting to be noticed; others stomp center

her splat in the latter category. Conjuring images of chain-smoking
dames in smoke-filled clubs, her bluesy phrasings and rumbling timbre
are at the stylistic core of True Margrit. The rest of the band (bassist
Gary Hobish and drummer Andrew Bacon) is no small shakes either."
- Neva

7/29/04 Thursday Lexie
Cole CD Release Party
8 to 11 pm
 |
Lexie Cole will be releasing her new CD "Nourish."
The debut album for Soul Singer/Songwriter, Lexie Cole, brings a new
sound to today's R&B market. With her conscious lyrics and contemporary
grooves, this green-eyed singer is hitting with force. Lexie sings with
so much passion and expression that audience members have been known to
call out "Go, Aretha!" and "You're the next Teena Marie!" Her
uninhibited singing style lacking any shred of self-consciousness is a
modern-day example of true soul singing. She considers her biggest
mentors to be Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight.
Her love of R&B/Soul, Funk and Gospel can be heard in her original
music. She has just finished producing her much anticipated debut album
"Nourish." As the Executive Producer, she wrote and recorded the entire
project in Oakland working primarily with BamRock City Productions' own
Robert Anderson. Being the sole lyricist, Lexie gets inspiration from
the heart of human existence: Soul searching, the pursuit of truth and
purpose and the knowledge that each of us deeply desires to make a
difference.
On the evening of the CD release, Lexie will be supported by the
FUNKONAUTS and OTIS GOODNIGHT. |
