out of all the Opie Bellas buzz, you'll have only yourself to blame." —

Dinner Set
w/ Ricardo Scales
"The black Liberace," Ricardo Scales' nickname, only tells part of the pianist's
story. Like the real Liberace, he wears flashy attire on-stage when he launches
into a set that showcases his incredible versatility. What the nickname doesn't
tell you is that the pianist has a determination as tough as steel, and he
needed every ounce of it to ever make it to the stage in the first place.
Everything from his performance to his flash makes Scales' piano playing look
fun and easy. And if you believed that, you'd be missing an inspiring story. |

"Milk, Cookies & Jazz"
w/
Gail Dobson
The Gail Dobson Vocal / Percussion Workshop begins with a performance voice,
guitar, bass & drums how the music intertwines and blends. The style of music
includes jazz, swing, ballads and Latin. The young audience is invited to
participate, even someone just "young at heart" to play rhythm instruments the
band provides, such as shakers, clavés, and tambourines. Then a hands-on
workshop begins. Gail and the trio instruct the children in the art of playing
percussion. The new band will now learn the art of vocal scat by call &
response. All this happens in a controlled, fun, relaxed atmosphere, as the
musicians share their love of music with the children. People of all ages
respond immediately to Gail, and her band, because of their friendly,
encouraging, and nurturing nature. |

The Hot Club of San Francisco
Taking a break from their national tour, members of The Hot Club of San Francisco jet home for a special concert and "BE THAT WAY" CD release party, featuring the latest collection of original tunes by guitar virtuoso, Paul Mehling. Take some time off from the monotony of multitasking and savor this musical sabbatical for the senses.
Inspired by and reminiscent of the music popularized by Django Reinhardt in the
1930's & 1940's, the Bay Area's own Hot Club group, led by Paul Mehling of
Oakland, features arrangements that are intricate, yet upbeat, with romantic
overtones. The all-acoustic string troupe of violin, string bass and guitars
performs traditional jazz, swing, bebop, Brazilian, tangos and original
compositions. Hailed internationally for its authentic gypsy jazz
interpretations, The Hot Club of San Francisco members were invited to perform
at the prestigious 2000 Festival de Django Reinhardt - Samois-sur-Sienne,
France. The HCSF has performed in national concert halls and at several San
Francisco and Sacramento Jazz Festivals. |
